International Congress for Conservation Biology (ICCB) 2025
Hosted the Society for Conservation Biology, the International Congress for Conservation Biology 2025 happened in Brisbane, Australia, in from June 15-20 2025
Dr. Singh’s student, Marcela, participated of the conference with a speed-talk on her work with the Haida Nation.
Her talk was part of the Social-Ecological transformations in non-public conservation policy and practice pannel, on the first morning of the conference.
Marcela shared a little bit about the methodological frameworks and results from the project our lab have been co-creating with Michelle McDonald and Skidegate community members on adaptation planning, uplifting the community’s voices and resilience to change from the Haida Nation. This project is just a small piece of a beautiful and meaningful work the Nation has been doing for a long time!

We thank the Haida Nation for partership and co-developing such an inspiring work about resilience, adaptation and traditional teachings.
According to Marcela, it was extremely important to share the stories and teachings of Haida collaborators with the world, and she had many important discussions and interactions with community members and scholars from other places who were inspired this work.

In the Strategies for a Changing Ocean Lab, we support the participation in conferences and talks with scientists and experts around the world.
